Jodie Emery For The Liberal Party of Canada
My name is Jodie Emery and I’m seeking the nomination to be the Liberal Party of Canada candidate for Vancouver-East in the 2015 federal election.
I’m a 29-year-old business owner and political activist born and raised in Kamloops, British Columbia. I moved to Vancouver in 2004 to work as a drug policy reform activist with Marc Emery, whom I married in July 2006.
I’ve had a lifelong interest in issues related to freedom, peace, and justice. My focus in activism has been on ending the failed policy of marijuana prohibition, which costs billions of tax dollars every year while endangering communities and eroding civil liberties.
I have run for office four times in my ten years of advocacy, and have had numerous opportunities to appear in mainstream media, including local and national TV, newsprint, radio and film. I’m also often invited to speak at conferences, rallies, and events in Canada and the United States to share my passion for liberty and freedom.
As a proud Canadian, I’ve watched with dismay as Stephen Harper’s Conservative government has damaged our democracy and dismantled countless important institutions across our country. I joined the Liberal Party because I want to save Canada from further harm under Stephen Harper, and because I believe in openness and accountability in government – and so does Justin Trudeau.
With new leadership under the Trudeau Liberals, we can restore Canada to the great, free country it should be. With your help, I hope to be part of making that happen as the Liberal Party candidate for Vancouver-East.
